Spike

Have a look at this interesting article (blog) on Spike, the Meanjin blog, by Jessica Au.

Au gives a review and discussion of the Short Films at MIFF, and discusses the shifting accessibility and experience of the short film.

Au's article also shows this strangely alluring short puppet-animation Johannes Nyholm’s Dreams from the Woods (Features the music by Little Dragon which adds for a particularly mesmerising cinema experience.)

Dreams from the Woods was last in the MIFF Animation Shorts 1 screening, which contained a really refreshing selection of animations, including Atsushi Wada's In a Pig’s Eye (mentioned in previous blog-post)

Something about it is a little Phil Mulloy, though not nearly as challenging as his work
.

Atsushi Wada

Atsushi Wada's animation In A Pig's Eye screened at this year's MIFF and it was fantastic. A real cracker. Information on it is available here (link to nice Zagreb Animafest festival site)

I've been looking at Mirai Mizue also
