Tying up of loose ends

Ponce_02
This is Ponce decending the staircase.

Today I am fiddling around with 'loose ends' so to speak. Perhaps I could say 'flaying around with loose ends' ..

perhaps

I went to see "Sky Captain of the world of Tomorrow" last night. It was very waxy - (visually speaking). I liked it.

On Wednesday night I went to see The Victorian Student Animation Festival. I was very impressed. Indeed there were a couple of fantastic animations. Funnily enough I was attracted to the 2D animations. Namely The Melon and Potato Show by Julian Gillespie - the characters were great, the dialogue was nuts, and the animation was almost non-existent. But it was such a funny, swift little package with no pretence that it was anything other than a crazy Saturday afternoon Flash splurge. Mmm. I'll write more about the others later. I am too busy to be here doing this. Eeeek.

Quick Stix

Oh. Its Valentines Day. I'll subscribe to the theme and pop up a 'romantic' comic I drew (1998) for the first issue of TANGO - A Romance anthology. Lets see how it goes in a large format....

Facetious
I have to think of names for these two little fellows. I have to animate them. Perhaps Barry and Sven??

Here, gaze at this. I find it quite relaxing.

It has been quite a busy week. I haven't looked any further into the Tom Tom club animations. I have been watching my "Animation Now" DVD...yes it is nice. Though I would really be quite happy if it included an hour special on Priit Parn .

I would be ecstatic if it included an hour special on Paul Driessen . How I love the way his lines move.

I went to a Flickerfest screening last night. There was a very lovely animation called "Through my thick glasses". It was claymation, really well written, and the timing was perfect. I'll have to search for the details on that one.
"Toots" was to be involved in an animation fest in Cambodia....today. I received notification from my pal John Weeks of file problems . Poo.

Over the lst couple of days I have offloaded some comics to the Trails, and the True Fantasy publications that are being organised by the Silent army lads. These are both comics books due out this year. Trails will be like a newspaper, and it's content will be largely scribbles and sketchbook snippets. Wee, I can't wait.

I like the word publish. Or what is entails. It involves that feeling of letting go of your work, giving it up from your harbour and letting it sail away. It's a finished piece, yet it's completion lays in it's life without you.

Here is an excerpt of part of the comic I submitted to True Fantasy

..and another.

I used to catch the bus up to Sydney. I'd look out at the tree covered hills next to Lake George. Every now and then there would be a grey leafless dead tree, striking it's branches up into the sky. I would imagine violin sounds for each dead tree that passed as I lay back on the bus seat. A constant growing and dying of orchestra, of trees.

Look. Shes running away...

Toots_huff

Not much to report today.
Just this
And recently this

I am working on a little dancing fellow to bop up onto my website. Poor ol' inkwinks needs some attention, some life! A daily comic? Mmmm. I'll have to chat to my technician and see what I can muster.

"I gets the bread" he says.

Dunderklumpen

Pellegnillot
Dunderklumpen was the first film I ever saw. Funnily enough I discovered recently that
a man called Toots Thielemans did the voice for Pellegnillot. He also composed the music for the film. Its live action with 2d drawn animation. (See the link) It is Swedish and the director was Beppe Wolgers. It took four years to make. I shall have to check with my Swedish friends to find out the artist's name who created these lovely characters.
